GlusterFS

It is an open source distributed file system that can scale out in building-block to store multiple petabytes of data. The clustered file system aggregating disk and memory, pool storage server over TCP/IP or infinity band Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA).This software works on the computer’s commodity at low cost on the Linux. It includes cloud computing, streaming media and delivering the content. This is suitable for the unstructured data like images, audio files, and log files.

It was first introduced in 2011,  through Gluster incorporation. Furthermore,  the Gluster incorporation is acquired by RED Hat Incorporation. The community of developers keeps on working to develop the latest versions.

How Gluster FS is different from the Ceph

Red Hat again acquired the ink tank storage who can develop the CEPH open source software. Except for the development work,  RED HAT supports the commercial versions of both Gluster FS and CEPH. There is a difference in the functionalities of CEPH and GLuster FS as both are in a single company line. The Gluster FS meets all the archiving needs.

Red Hat’s acquisition of Inktank Storage and Ceph does not duplicate the functionality of GlusterFS in the company’s product line. Rather, Ceph adds object and block-based storage to Gluster’s file storage. For Red Hat customers, GlusterFS meets archiving needs, while Ceph is used in many OpenStack implementations.
